Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
This classical museum is the most famous in the city. Providing an overview of art in the Netherlands, it focuses especially on the golden age of 1600 to the end of the 1700s when Amsterdam was the richest city in the world. The Rijksmuseum has been through many transformations and renovations and is now counted as one of the most breathtaking museums in the world.

The path of love does not always run smoothly. Although this talented artist never found lasting love in his lifetime, Van Gogh’s art speaks of the joys and pains of life. If you want to see this unique museum and secret annexe, make sure to book in advance. Anne Frank house tickets are released online 2 months before. However, if you haven’t managed to do this, don’t fret as 25% of tickets are released online on the day, early in the morning. You may be lucky!

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

For couples who are interested in contemporary art, the Stedelijk Museum is a wonderful addition to your Amsterdam itinerary. Experience modern visual art and design. Changing exhibitions keep the museum fresh and fascinating. It is also the most popular museum among locals. Make sure to check the schedule to see what exhibitions are on during your trip. The museum is open all year round from 10-6 pm and 10 pm on Fridays, so it is perfect for those who are searching for an after-dinner activity or couples who have just finished my romantic canal tour amsterdam.
Sex Museum Amsterdam
Although the Amsterdam Sex Museum is a very popular attraction with tourists, I would not recommend it. In my opinion, it is an old museum that is very poorly done. However, if you are interested in finding out about the sex industry and how it operates in Amsterdam, I suggest a visit to the superior Red Light Secrets: Museum of Prostitution. Not the most romantic thing to do, but it is interesting as it is the first and only of its kind in the world.

I offer private tours through the red light district, as city council does not allow tours for more than 4 people at a time. Alternatively, you can visit the Prostitution Information Centre to meet real sex workers. This is an educational centre and charity passionate about fostering open conversations about this trade. They are available to answer questions from curious tourists and even offer tours.
Rembrandt Museum
Visiting Rembrandt’s Museum is like looking through a window to the past. The artist lived in this house with his wife Saskia before he was declared bankrupt. The house acts not only as a shrine, preserved and filled with his belongings but also as an example of Dutch architecture. Once you step in the door you will have a clear sense of how people lived during the 1600s. Although this house does not contain his paintings (they are present in the Rijksmuseum), you can see his studio, paints and how he created his prints.
If either of you are keen artists, the museum even runs workshops on printmaking. The house is small yet lovingly restored and less busy than most of Amsterdam’s museums. This makes it the perfect location for an intimate date and a taste of Amsterdam’s history.
Amsterdam Cheese Museum
The Amsterdam Cheese Museum is more of a shop and a tourist ploy than a museum per se. However, it can make for a humorous visit! The main floor is a cheese shop, full of free samples. You can also snap a picture of you and your partner in a Dutch cheesemaker’s outfit!

However, if you were looking for a romantic cheese tasting experience, my pick would be Proelfokaal. During this traditional tasting, experts will explain how the cheeses are made and you will be able to try a selection of homemade treats.
Banksy Museum Amsterdam
The Banksy or actually named the Moco Museum is one of Amsterdam’s newer museums. It was founded a few years ago to attract a younger audience. Boutique in design, the Moco has made its home in a townhouse overlooking Museumplein. Featuring offerings from artists like Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol – their wide collection of art uses humour to reflect on modern society.

It is the perfect haunt for fans of the elusive British street artist. Their Banksy selection is unparalleled. Striking street art, indoor works and canvas pieces – Banksy fans will delight at the political and often amusing displays.
Exhibitions change regularly but the Moco Museum Amsterdam only focuses on proven artists with unique and subversive visions, so you will be sure to find one for you and your partner to enjoy.
Heineken Museum Amsterdam
If you and your significant other love beer, then it makes sense than this brewery turned interactive tour would be part of your Amsterdam itinerary. While the experience can be enjoyable, it is usually very crowded!

Remember that Amsterdam has a lot of small local breweries. Brouwerij ‘t IJ and Brouwerij de Prael might provide a more authentic and intimate experience, more suitable for couples. Sample seasonal and classic Dutch craft beer or join a tour. Quality beer and good company – what more could you want?

NEMO Science Museum Amsterdam
This museum may be designed for children but if you like to be playful together and love science then why not? However, my advice would be to shun the museum itself and visit the rooftop for a beautiful view of the city. It is a truly magical place to watch the sun dip below the horizon. Watching the sunset over the city is one of the most romantic things you can do with your partner.
